Les cinq \u00e9tapes de l'affinage des m\u00e9taux : Du minerai au m\u00e9tal pur<\/strong><\/h2>\r\nLa Monnaie royale canadienne affine son or en suivant ces cinq \u00e9tapes :\n\n1. Pr\u00e9-fusion\n\nDes lingots de dor\u00e9, dont la puret\u00e9 varie entre 5% et 95%, sont fondus dans un four. Des \u00e9chantillons sont pr\u00e9lev\u00e9s par immersion dans l'or fondu afin de d\u00e9terminer sa puret\u00e9.\r\n\r\n2. Chloration\n\nDu chlore gazeux est inject\u00e9 dans le m\u00e9lange m\u00e9tallique en fusion. Tous les m\u00e9taux, \u00e0 l'exception de l'or, remontent \u00e0 la surface pour former un scories de chlorure en fusion. L'or fin \u00e0 995 ainsi obtenu est coul\u00e9 dans un moule \u00e0 anode.\r\n\r\n3. S\u00e9paration de l\u2019or\n\nDu carbonate de sodium est ajout\u00e9 au laitier de chlorure fondu r\u00e9cup\u00e9r\u00e9 lors de la chloration. La r\u00e9action provoque l\u2019agr\u00e9gation des particules d\u2019or en un ' bouton ' d\u2019alliage argent-or qui se d\u00e9pose au fond du creuset.\n\n4. \u00c9lectrolyse\r\n\r\nCe proc\u00e9d\u00e9 permet d\u2019obtenir de l\u2019or d\u2019une puret\u00e9 de 9999. L\u2019anode d\u2019or est plac\u00e9e dans un bain contenant une solution d\u2019acide chlorhydrique et de chlorure d\u2019or. L\u2019anode est ensuite soumise \u00e0 un courant \u00e9lectrique. L\u2019anode se dissout, et l\u2019or dissous se d\u00e9pose sur une cathode en titane. Les impuret\u00e9s (principalement de l\u2019argent) tombent au fond de la cellule ou forment des chlorures solubles.\n\n5.
