Canada Gold’s First-Ever Colouring Contest at the Coin Exchange with The Royal Canadian Mint

Nov 11, 2025

Coin collecting just got a little more colourful! For the first time ever, the Canada Gold Coin Exchange welcomed families with a fun new addition, a Colouring Contest for kids.

Held on September 26 – 27, 2025 at Canada Gold Hamilton, the event was part of a special Coin Exchange hosted with the Royal Canadian Mint, where collectors and enthusiasts could trade cash for newly released commemorative coins.

Visitors exchanged $5 in cash for $5 in limited-edition 2025 coins, including:

  • Two coloured $2 coins celebrating the life and art of Daphne Odjig
  • One coloured $1 coin honouring the 150th Anniversary of the Supreme Court of Canada

With long lines forming throughout the days, the Canada Gold team decided to add an extra layer of excitement for the youngest attendees and it was a hit.

The Colouring Contest

While the grown-ups swapped coins, the kids took centre stage at the Colouring Contest station, complete with crayons, colouring sheets, and lots of smiles.

Children were invited to design their very own toonie using a special colouring page featuring a blank coin template. They gave their creations unique titles and added their first names and ages before submitting their entries.

For those waiting in line, the contest offered a fun and engaging way to pass the time. Parents loved it too, many even returned later with their kids just so they could join in! To make things even more fun, Canada Gold introduced “Melty,” our friendly mascot, featured on bonus colouring pages sharing fun facts and jokes about precious metals.

And the Winners Are…

We received a total of 19 colourful entries from creative kids across Hamilton, and every single one brightened up the event! After the event, winners were chosen through a random draw, keeping things fair for all participants.

1st Prize – “Sunset” by Graham (Age 6):

Monarch Butterfly Specimen Set

2nd Prize – “Rainbow” by Henry (Age 3):

O’Canada Gift Card Set

A big congratulations to the winners, and a heartfelt thank you to all the young artists who participated. Their creativity and enthusiasm made the event one to remember!

Family, Fun, and Precious Memories

The success of the colouring contest showed that coin collecting can be fun for all ages. What started as a way to make the wait more enjoyable turned into a highlight of the weekend, with families spending quality time together and leaving with both memories and masterpieces.

And the fun doesn’t stop here! Future Coin Exchange events will include the Canada Gold Colouring Contest, giving more young artists a chance to shine.
