Event Recap: Hamilton Coin Exchange

Oct 21, 2025

Canada Gold is proud to be an authorized distributor of the Royal Canadian Mint (RCM). Given we just opened a new Canada Gold location at the Centre on Barton in Hamilton, Ontario, it was perfect timing to host a coin exchange with the RCM. The event, which took place September 26-27, 2025 was a celebration of community, indigenous art and showcased a deep-rooted passion for coins and collectibles. The event attracted over 600 participants – from seasoned collectors to curious newcomers just starting their coin collections.

For those not familiar with the concept, a coin exchange is an event collaboratively hosted by the RCM and one of their authorized distributors. These events offer a rare and exciting opportunity for coin collectors and enthusiasts to acquire newly minted commemorative coins directly from the source, often before they become widely available. These exchanges are hosted all over the country and Canada Gold is proud to host them at our stores across Canada.

Highlighted at the event was the new $2 commemorative coin honouring Daphne Odjig, a groundbreaking Indigenous artist recognized as a pioneer of Indigenous art in Canada. The coin features a design inspired by her 1977 painting The Folk Singer, depicting a woman with a drum. The outer rim of the coin incorporates elements from Odjig’s The Indian in Transition (1978), symbolizing the strength and evolution of Indigenous identity in Canadian art.

However, this was not the only highlight. Canada Gold sister companies – 100 façons et Canadian Coin and Currency were on display showcasing some of their beautiful products with rare coins and one of a kind vintage jewellery. Young attendees were also treated to a colouring contest that brought their imaginations to life, blending beautiful colours to show how colourful coins can be!

Thank you to everyone who came out and made this coin exchange one we will all remember! Looking to stay updated on when the next Coin Exchange is? S'abonner à notre lettre d'information to get all the latest information and updates.
